Looking to boost your fertility with recipes for delicious smoothies?

You’ve come to the right place.

I’ve become addicted to smoothies in the morning. Not only are they a great way to sneak in all sorts of fertility-boosting foods in the morning (that I wouldn’t get with my old cereal go-to!), but they’re also easy to drink on the go! (Plus, it’s easy to whip up different flavors and varieties with whatever fruit you have on hand!)

Here are the key ingredients I use to make great fertility-boosting smoothies (and the secret fertility-boosting ingredient I put in all my smoothies!):

Key Ingredients:

1. Full-fat yogurt

Over and over, full-fat dairy has been shown to improve fertility. My favorite yogurt to put in smoothies is the vanilla or strawberry 4% milkfat Siggi’s brand (it’s super thick — a little too thick for my liking to be eaten alone, but great for smoothies!). *For research on full-fat dairy and why it’s better, check out my post on the best fertility diet.

2. Spinach

Spinach is a great source of vitamins like A, C, and K — not to mention folate! (If you’re like me and probably don’t eat enough veggies a day, this is a great way to sneak some in at breakfast!)

3. Seeds — chia and flax

Seeds are high in Omega-3 fatty acids — a great source of healthy fats in the morning! Plus, chia seeds thicken up your smoothie.

4. Frozen fruit

This is where you can’t go wrong and can make all sorts of different types of flavors. I like to buy a giant bag of frozen strawberries to have on hand and freeze a bunch of bananas ahead of time. Raspberries, pineapples, and blueberries are all great too! Try out different combinations to find your favorite.

5. Ice and/or water

Ice is key especially if you don’t have frozen fruit on hand. Even when I do, I will add a few ice cubes. Any smoothie tastes great if it’s cold! And typically I will add some water too, depending on the thickness (or try orange juice for added vitamins!).

6. My secret ingredient: Collagen peptides

For the longest time I’ve been wanting to include some type of protein powder in my smoothies, but I’ve never known what to buy. Then my dietician recommended these collagen peptides. One scoop has 7 g of protein, and also includes amino acids like glycine and arginine (read more on arginine and fertility in my post here) that I think we often forget about when we talk about fertility-boosting foods. Even if I don’t have a smoothie in the morning, I make sure I have a scoop in my tea!

*Besides collagen peptides, many other people would urge your to put a maca powder like this one in smoothies. Admittedly I have not done the research on maca powder, but many people swear by it for reproductive help. However, it does have a taste to it that many people don’t like. (I take another supplement that already has maca root in it, which is why I don’t add it to my smoothies.)

One last note about making smoothies

Buying this Ninja has honestly taken my smoothies to the next level. With my old blender, I would end up chewing on pieces of spinach (ew) and I’d have to stop it every so often to manually mix it with a spoon. With this one, I click the “smoothie” button, walk away, and come back to a perfectly blended smoothie a minute or two later! It’s awesome!
