Not that there’s anything wrong with board games (we love a game of Yahtzee) or cooking together (I’m happy for you if your husband likes to cook) or Netflix (I would hope you could think of that one on your own)…but once in a while it would be nice to do something at least a little different, right? How about some stay home date ideas that your husband will actually love?
(Or, if you’re reading this in the midst of the COVID crisis, you’ve already done all of the obvious and are still sitting at home bored.)
And I promise — these date ideas your husband will actually be excited about (I know because my husband approved them!).
1. Watch funny youtube videos together.
There’s nothing my husband loves more than showing me a funny youtube video (usually when I’m trying to make dinner or get some work done…). Watch some old ones that you remember from years ago (remember that old leprechaun video?) or find some new ones!
2. Make lists.
My husband and I have all sorts of lists — things we want to do this summer, places we want to travel, things we want in a dream house…really, whatever it is that gives you something to get excited about.
3. Do a blind taste test.
Find something that your husband is convinced he can tell the difference between — different color Skittles, something diet and something regular, different brands — and put him to the test! For my husband, it was beers. So I took Miller Lite, Bud Lite, Busch Lite — whatever we had in the house — and tested him. Guess what? Zero right.
4. Send thank-you notes.
Think about all of those people in your life who you know you need to thank and never do. For us, it was our neighbors. We wrote a thank you card, ran up the road to the local brewery to grab a gift card, and stuck it in their mailbox.
5. Do a workout video.*
My husband actually suggested this one…not exactly my idea of a “date” per se, but I suppose a couple who works out together, stays together!
6. Play video games.*
Although, if you’re anything like me, I can get a little too competitive and carried away with this one…
7. Sit on the back deck or have a bonfire.
This is one of our favs. I’m actually considering buying a fire pit so we can do that while we’re currently on lockdown with the Coronavirus outbreak…but that would take a little advance planning. Plan B is sitting on the back deck, sipping a glass of wine, and leaving our phones in the house.
8. Resurrect an old app to play games.
If you’re like us and don’t have a whole lot of board games (and it seems like all of the fun ones are for 4+ people), resurrect an old app to play together. Draw Something, anyone? (Or this online version!)
9. Listen to a podcast.
Usually this is something we do together in the car, but why not stay at home and listen? If you ask to listen to your husband’s favorite, even better.
10. Watch sports.*
Right now, in the midst of COVID-19, there are no sports on…so watch an old one! My husband can give a play-by-play of just about every great U of M basketball comeback there ever was, so youtube one of those old games and watch it!
*The key here is thinking to yourself, “What does my husband do with his guy friends?” and then do that!! Hope you enjoy these stay home date ideas that your husband is guaranteed to love!
