Bored at home and looking for something to do? The Coronavirus crisis is a great time to help others! (Remember all of those times you said you didn’t have time? Now you can’t use that excuse!) Whether you’re willing to leave your home or not, here are some great ideas for helping others during this crisis.

At home:

1. Leave out hand sanitizer, soap, (or toilet paper!) for your delivery workers.

Think about your mailman, garbage collector, Shipt shopper, Uber eats driver, and Amazon delivery person — all who are likely working overtime. Give them an extra token of your appreciation!

2. Sponsor a child or loan money to an entrepreneur.

Besides helping others in your own community, this is a great time to think about helping others globally too. Check out Compassion International or Kiva.

3. Thank others.

This is also a great time to remember and thank those people who have helped you out — not just your delivery workers, but friends and family too. Send a quick text, call a friend, send a thank-you card — recognize those people who you usually “don’t have time” to thank.

Venturing out:

4. Check with your neighbors before grocery shopping.

Before heading out to the grocery store, send a quick text to a neighbor to see if they need anything. (But be prepared — you might be surprised that they actually take you up on it!)

5. Drop off food to your local food pantry.

Then, when you’re at the grocery store, don’t just pick up some items for your neighbor — pick up some extra that you can drop off at the local food pantry too.

6. Deliver meals.

You can also deliver meals. Keep in mind the typical “meal deliverer” volunteer is elderly — and since elderly people especially are being encouraged to stay in, these organizations are short on volunteers right now. Check out Meals on Wheels.

7. Give blood.

You may have heard that blood banks are struggling right now, as they may not have all of their “usual” donors. If you are able, get out there and give blood!

Whatever you do during Coronavirus, make sure you find a way to help others! (And when you’re done, check out these stay home date ideas if you’re stuck at home!)
