I know prayer journal printables and binders are the “in” thing right now, but I struggled over whether or not I should create something like that to put on my blog. Personally, I keep a small notebook of prayers in a black Moleskine notebook. It’s not colorful or pretty; it doesn’t always have a format. Sometimes I write in paragraphs. Other times I write in lists.

That being said, I know not everyone works that way. Some people find joy in the organization; in keeping a consistent journal guided by scripture. Still, somehow I feel a structured journal can take away from the freedom we have when we pray. Prayers are meant to be a personal conversation with God, not a list of formatted prompts you feel compelled to follow.

My compromise was the following downloadable, customizable prayer journal. The first seven days include scriptures and a prompt or two, but following that is a customizable, reproducible page that can be used again and again however you want. It does follow a general format that I do use regularly — Bill Hybels’ ACTS model. (If you have not read his book, Too Busy Not to Pray, I would highly recommend it, as it has completely changed the way that I pray.)

The basic model I follow is this:
–Adoration (focusing on the attributes of God + praising His name)
–Confession (asking for forgiveness by confessing your specific sins)
–Thanksgiving (thanking God for the blessings He has given)
–Supplication (asking God for things)

I sincerely hope that this prayer journal encourages you to pray regularly and strengthens your relationship with God!
